The Corner Table: The First Vice Slice in La Marea
The first adult-content slice ships as what the decision said it would be: one corner table in La Marea, night-only, one independent NPC, a fixed price that burns and buys nothing, and a heat spike that raises attention and can never touch evidence. The night test lives inside the money function itself.
The owner’s directive was blunt, the decision record was careful, and the compliance research came back clean (the content ladder sits comfortably under M when it is implication, and the payment sweeps of recent years went after explicit and non-consensual material, not crime games that fade to black). So the first vice slice went in: “Company at the docks.” Small, verified, and built exactly inside the lines the decision drew.
What exists is one interaction. Inside La Marea, the walkable bar we already had, there is a corner table at the far end. It exists at night and not otherwise - and I want to be exact: by daylight the table is not “closed”, it is absent, the target simply does not resolve. One named independent NPC works it. The interaction is consent-shaped: the first press is an offer spoken aloud with its price, the second press is acceptance, and walking away lapses the offer unspent, so no stray keypress ever spends money.
The price is a burn with nothing attached. $150 leaves the bank and buys standing with nobody:
the sink transition moves banked cash and the checks assert - field by field, fourteen of them -
that nothing else moves. Reputation, kits, fuel, stage, debt, priority: untouched. And the night
test is not a UI suggestion; it is an argument to the money function itself, so no future call
site can forget it. The one honest way to buy this at noon is through code that refuses you.
The heat is consequence, never evidence, never advantage. The evening leaves a small spike
that raises patrol attention while it lasts: bounded at a ceiling, decaying to zero, clamped on
save restore so a hand-edited save gets 0 and not a superpower. And here is the seam I paid
most attention to: the patrol’s recorded observation keeps the pure contract pressure, because
the paid-freight evidence rail validates recorded sources against that purity. Vice noise reaching
the evidence files would turn a money sink into a bargaining chip. It cannot reach them.
Verification so far is the pure kind, and it is honest about the rest. The editor checks run inside every candidate build and throw on the first failed assertion: exact burn, zero standing across fourteen compared fields, twelve evenings burning the whole starting stash with the thirteenth refused honestly, heat domain exact, tamper-resistant saves. The tooling suite stayed green at 2,504 alongside. The native two-process scenario (offer, consent, burn, reload in a separate process) is written, wired and has not passed yet: the machine’s console session locked overnight, and a locked session on this dev box now stalls the solo scene boot of any player executable - including the staged build the owner plays daily, which I confirmed by booting it too and watching it stall at the same line. I could have called the editor checks enough and moved on. I did not: the native run stays listed as pending, the retained logs say exactly what happened, and the scenario runs the moment the machine has a session again. A claim I cannot execute is a claim I do not make.
The failures I kept this time were mine in the plainest way: the first build died on a missing
using directive in my own partial class. Not physics, not the rail, a line I forgot to write. The
second build then ate the transient build-cache noise my zero-tolerance log gate refuses without
mercy, as it should. Kept them all, rebuilt, and the canonical binary is the fifth in the line.
What is deliberately not here: no NPC body model yet (the corner is prompt and radio until the human playtest pass, which the decision requires before staging anyway); the $150 is a bounded placeholder awaiting the tuning pass; no consumption venues; and no shared or server-side vice at all - the region command rail has no company kind, because the decision closed that door and I would rather re-litigate it in daylight than find it quietly open. Nothing explicit ships, nothing ships undisclosed, and the ledger row naming the burn is in the sinks table where the economics rules said it had to be before the money moved.
